  6. Get 1 pint milk
  7. Prepare 50 g butter
  8. Get 30 g flour

The usual white sauce is replaced with a colourful, fresh and zingy tomato salsa with a chilli kick. Topped with perfectly piped mash and cooked until golden, crispy and steaming hot. You can also make individual fish pies as single servings if you prefer. This fish pie recipe is full of flavour and lighter than traditional recipes.

Steps to make Super Fish Pie:
  1. Heat the oven to 200 °C (Gasmark 6)
  2. Boil some water for the potatoes
  3. Peel and cut the spuds into smallish bits
  4. Chop the fish into pretty chunks
  5. Add the potatoes to the boiling water and boil for 10 mins
  6. Steam the fish for 8 — 10 mins
  7. Time for parsley sauce, melt 30g of butter in a saucepan
  8. Mix the flour into the metled butter and drop in 3/4 of a pint of milk and the chopped parsley
  9. After the parsley sauce is mixed, drop in the peas and then keep the sauce on a low heat
  10. Once the fish has steamed, put it into a suitable deep dish. I use a medium sized pyrex cooking dish
  11. Pour over the parsley and pea sauce
  12. Shave the butter into the potatoes and start to mash it up
  13. Pour a little milk into the mash pan to help the mash get creamy
  14. Salt & pepper in the mash to taste
  15. Cover the fish & sauce with the mash potatoes and even out the pie’s mash top with a fork (I like to put grooves in mine)
  16. Bake the pie in the oven for 20 mins
  17. Optional: sprinkle some grated cheddar onto the pie and grill until the cheese is browning and cripsing up
  18. Serve and give the pie a couple of minutes to cool before devouring it with gusto!

Topped with piped mash and cooked until golden, crispy and steaming hot. Fish pie is the ultimate comfort food, and there are endless directions in which you can take it: use your favourite fish or shellfish for the filling, switch up the classic mash for a mix of sweet potato or celeriac, and even add your favourite spices for a kick. Melt the butter in a pan. Add in the chopped leek and garlic. Stir in the flour and mix well.
